  1. Hi Paul,
It’s been awhile since I listen to your podcasts as a carnivore. Wondering if you still take meds for afib or has it gone with woe? Any general rules for afib sufferers?

    1. A ketogenic diet is one of the best diets for people with Atrial Fibrillation. The biggest worry for Afib sufferers is that a clot will form in the right ventricle then get pumped to the brain where it can cause a stroke. The bad news for insulin resistant people is that they have very high insulin levels and insulin increases the risk of clotting in 3 different ways, it increases the production of a key clotting factors, decreases the production a factor which breaks down clots once they form and causes the platelets which are found in clots to clump together more readily. A ketogenic diet dramatically lowers insulin levels and clot risk.
The cause of Afib is damage to the nerves that coordinate the heartbeat and that is usually permanent once it occurs. Common causes are smoking, high glucose levels in diabetes, mild heart attacks, and stretching from an enlarged heart caused by heart failure or high blood pressure. Sometimes some bad connections can be burned out by the cardiologist and the Afib reversed and in some cases it can be controlled with medication and a normal rhythm restored. You would have to talk to a cardiologist about that.
